During this weekend, Larrie Matthews invited me to be his co-pilot to the show. Kiwi Riordan our gracious host, offered to put us up at his place for the weekend.... the rest is a bit of history, as is every time I have been able to spend time with these two great friends.
Larrie and I were able to take a look at a '67 Camaro that Jim Pettigrew is working on for Jimmy Johnson. It is one beautiful piece of work, from the complete restoration, to the SB2 Randy Dorton memorial engine, to the 2000 Corvette front suspension, this is a GOURGEOUS ride!!!
According to car builder Jim Pettigrew, the SB2 motor has been reworked to make it a little more streetable, but boy it sure looks absolutely killer under that hood! ( and everywhere else!! ) Jim says it will still run up around 9,000 rpm, but he didn't want to push it!! It idles SO SWEET at about 900 rpm! ( no SB2 in a real Cup Car will idle at 900 rpm!
The Boyd Coddington 'Boydster III' ( Kiwi is adjusting the hood, Larrie is getting his camera primed )
And a very nice retooled Camaro Pace Car
Then an opportunity to get pictures with Kiwi, me and Rick at the Impala.... ( we missed this on previous trips... ) ( Kiwi with no hat )
Ricks Impala engine bay picture taken at ISSCA 2006 Nationals during Chino's shoot for GM High Performance article
Rick's ZR1 "Hanger Queen" ( s/n 002 )
Rick had to go... we'd made him a little late for the airport and... well... he sort of split quickly ( and loudly... ) in his daily driver ZR1....
